The concept of Forest Bathing, or nature therapy, originated in Japan and has been described as an immersion in the forest atmosphere. It involves slow walks or seated meditation as a means of taking in nature through the senses; primarily sights, sounds, and smells. Practicing forest bathing has shown measurable improvements in both physical and mental health. This presentation will offer information about forest bathing, it’s benefits, and practical suggestions on how to get started.

Beth Bruckbauer is a retired nurse practitioner who worked in the University of Wisconsin system for many years. She has a lifetime love of the outdoors and has spent time hiking in parks and forests throughout the Midwest. In 2019, Beth completed the Master Naturalist Volunteer Certification offered through Pheasant Branch Conservancy, with the goal of learning more about and supporting our natural resources. She developed a presentation on Forest Bathing as part of the course.
